BACK TO MAIN BLOG The Christie is the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe treating more than 60,000 patients each year. Local to us here at Ultimate, The Christie is based in Manchester and whilst they serve people across the Greater Manchester and Cheshire area, a quarter of their patients are referred from other areas across the UK. Outside of North America, their UK centre has been ranked as the most technologically advanced centre in the world. Their extensive research studies has also provided them with the title of National Institute for Health Research which is phenomenal. 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime, which is quite a frightening statistic. The Christie supports people living with cancer by providing life-changing and life-saving work – they are able to provide over and above what the NHS funds through enhanced services funded by donations. We are taking part in their Christie Challenge which involves completing 6 different fundraising activities over the year. Each activity will earn us a piece of The Christie rainbow jigsaw medal! To date, we have raised just over £1,100 across 3 fundraising activities: 100km bike ride from Manchester to Blackpool – completed by our founder Matt Townsend. 13,000 skydive – completed by me (Sophie) at Black Knights Skydiving Centre. Charity Raffle We will continue to support The Christie in 2024 with the goal to increase our donations throughout this next year, with plans to take part in the following: Night of Neon – Walk Tower Run – Fastest 5 Challenge Great Manchester 10K and Half Manchester – Blackpool Cycle If you want to learn more about The Christie charity and the incredible work they are doing, head over to their website.
